Breast Imaging Fellowship
The Breast Imaging Section of Yale offers a comprehensive fellowship according to the guidelines and curriculum recommended by the Society of Breast Imaging. The goal of the fellowship is to provide the fellow with education and experience in the field of breast imaging and to apply this knowledge in reducing breast cancer mortality. Full year breast imaging or combination modalities are available. Currently, four fellowship positions are offered annually.
Approximately 18,000 studies and interventional procedures are performed by the Breast Imaging section each year. These include more than 9,000 screening mammograms that are done on a mobile van that covers much of southern Connecticut, at a satellite screening facility, and in-house. In addition, more than 5,000 diagnostic mammograms as well as ductography, breast ultrasound and breast MRI are performed. Nearly 1,000 interventional procedures are performed each year and include mammographic, sonographic, and MRI guided needle localizations and stereotactic, sonographic, and MRI- guided core biopsies.
The Breast Imaging section at Yale has a strong tradition of clinical research and has many publications, particularly in the fields of breast biopsy and breast MRI. The members of the section are active in the Society of Breast Imaging and are considered leaders in the field.
