Typical Day of a Resident

There are basically 4 rotations: Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH) nuclear medicine core for general nuclear medicine, NYHH core for PET/CT, West Haven VA Medical Center for general nuclear medicine including nuclear cardiology and PET/CT, and elective rotation at YNHH.

Typically, the day starts at 8:00 a.m. at the YNHH nuclear medicine core. There is a basic science didactic curriculum on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. for about 8 months of the academic year, which fulfills the requirements for NRC licensure. In addition to case teaching with each clinical rotation, there is a weekly journal club as well as an interesting case conference, during which each resident takes turn in sharing interesting and difficult cases from each site for discussion. Typically, the day ends at about 5:30 p.m.

The nuclear cardiology rotation has a slightly different lecture schedule which starts at 8 a.m. with a didactic lecture every morning and ending at about 5:30 p.m. after reading out the cases of the day.

Nuclear medicine section participates jointly in the radiology grand rounds which occurs about twice monthly on Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
