James Duncan, PhD and William Greene from Yale's Biomedical Engineering Department receive MICCAI 2008 awards.

The 11th International Conference on Medical Imaging and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI 2008) was held at New York University on September 6-10, 2008 and was attended by over 1,000 researchers from 34 countries and six continents. Two members of Yale's Biomedical Engineering Department were presented with awards:

  • Prof. James S. Duncan, Ebenezer K. Hunt Professor of Biomedical Engineering, was presented with the “MICCAI 2008 Significant Researcher Award” given “for his pioneering research on Statistical and Deformable Model-Based methods, their multi-organ based applications and his service to the to the MICCAI Society.” Professor Duncan is also Vice-Chair of Bioimaging Science & Research for the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at the Yale School of Medicine.
  • William H. Greene, graduate student in Biomedical Engineering, working with Prof. Jim Duncan, won the “MICCAI Society Young Investigator Award” for the content and presentation of his paper, “A Constrained Non-Rigid Registration Algorithm for use in Prostate Image-Guided Radiotherapy,” co-authored with S. Chelikani, K. Purushothaman, X. Papademetris, L. H. Staib, J. P. S Knisely and J. Duncan. This paper was one of six selected for an award out of over 700 ten-page full-paper submissions, and was one of only 37 selected for a podium presentation, all after a rigorous, three-level, blinded review process.
